BROADCHURCH viewers spotted a glaring gaffe during last night’s episode as Lenny Henry’s greengrocer character has a number of spelling mistakes on his sign.
Lenny plays Ed Burnett – who many fans suspect may be Trish’s rapist – but viewers were distracted by the numerous spelling mistakes on the sign outside the farm shop.
The blackboard reads: “Fresh British fruit and vegtables” when it should be spelled “vegetables”.
It also says “Heritage tomatos” instead of “tomatoes”.
Viewers were also baffled when Beth, played by Jodie Whittaker, took Julie Hesmondhalgh’s character Trish for therapy in a cafe following her ordeal.
Olivia Colman’s character Ellie Miller asked Beth to ensure the attack was kept a secret from the town but she announced she was from “Wessex Rape Response” before sitting down in the busy cafe.
Viewers were disappointed, with one writing on Twitter: “I find it awful that they’re having a meeting about Trish’s attack in a local café… it just, it doesn’t seem right #broadchurch”.

Another added: “Does rape counselling usually take place in a public café? #broadchurch.”
Meanwhile, fans were convinced the rapist was finally revealed during Monday night’s episode.
The latest instalment of the drama reached a dramatic conclusion last night as Trish finally gave her official statement, and suspicion fell on Lenny’s character.
In the show, Trish, played by former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh, is raped at a party and fans have turned armchair detective in a bid to solve the mystery.
Many have singled out Ed Burnett, played by veteran comedian Lenny, as the sexual predator responsible for the crime.
They flocked to Twitter last night to point the finger at Trish’s manager, after he received a visit from his police officer daughter.
She told him: “I need to talk to you” shortly before the credits rolled.
One wrote: “Its Lenny Henry #broadchurch,” and another added: “I’ve changed my mind I think it’s Lenny Henry.”
A third added: “As for the rapist ….bets are still on Lenny Henry #broadchurch.”
Another wrote: “It’s going to be Lenny Henry #alwayssuspected #Broadchurch.”
However in the closing scenes, Trish received a disturbing text message from an anonymous user who warned her not to talk.
Many viewers were convinced they saw a shadow at her window as the episode reached it’s thrilling end – and they believe it proves the rapist may not be Ed Burnett after all.
Some have named Mark Latimer, the grieving father of murdered schoolboy Danny from the first two seasons, as the rapist.
Others have cast doubts on the vicar, Revered Paul Coates, who has been labelled “a bit shifty” and the taxi driver who ruined his own alibi.
One tweeted: “Mark Latimer may be part of original cast but no need to be in season 3 unless big part to play. He’s your man Hardy & Miller. #broadchurch.”
