MOST telly addicts would recognise Sebastian Armesto’s face from the small screen.
The actor pops up frequently in a number of roles, including Broadchurch, as suspicious cabbie Clive Lucas and now most recently in the new series of Poldark. Here’s what we know about him..
Who is Sebastian Armesto?
Sebastian Armesto (born Sebastian Felipe Xavier Fernández-Garcia Armesto) is a 35-year-old British film and TV actor.
He was educated at the acclaimed Eton Collete and is the son of historian Felipe Fernandez-Armesto.
Previously speaking about the drama department at Eton, he said: “There’s nothing else to compare it to. The facilities are amazing, there is an excellent group of teachers and I was exposed to some extraordinary works of theatre. It gave me a real taste of what it might be like to do as a job.”
He landed his first film role in A Feast at Midnight in 1995, and has further developed his career on stage and screen.
As well as acting, he works with production company Simple 8 as a write and director for theatre productions.
What other TV series and films has Sebastian Armesto been in?
One of Sebastian’s first roles was in 1995 comedy A Feast at Midnight, but his first flick was Marie Antoinette, in which he played Comte Louis de Provence.
In 2008 he played idiotic Edmund Sparkler in Charles Dickens adaptation Little Dorrit alongside The Crown’s Claire Foy and Pride and Prejudice’s Matthew McFaddyen.
The actor has since found himself a string of roles in highly publicised films – including Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, as Ferdinand VI of Spain, and a Lieutenant in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.
He also took on the role of Channel 4’s dramatic political retelling Coalition, playing George Osbourne in the fallout of the 2010 UK General Election.
In 2017, he came to prominence on TV as Clive, one of many suspects in the hunt for Trish Winterman’s rapist in series three of Broadchurch.
Who does Sebastian play in Poldark?
Sebastian is currently on our screens as part of BBC1’s Poldark after being introduced as a recurring character in series 2.
He plays Tankard – who a lawyer helps navigate loopholes to identify areas George Warleggan can exploit for financial gain.
Tankard’s relationship with George is often seen as skewed, with Tankard agreeing to any of George’s request, which included in series two a demand for him to attempt to “debauch” Demelza Poldark, with no success.
George uses tankard as a means to get more power within the social circles, and what he believes is respect as a result.
