BROADCHURCH has returned to our screens and fans cannot wait to watch the TV series which gripped the nation on its release seven years ago.
But for those who somehow haven’t yet seen the show: what is it about, who’s in the cast and what time will you need to tune in?
When is Broadchurch on tonight?
The next episode will air on ITV1 at 9pm TONIGHT (June 15).
Each of the eight episodes will be shown at the same time every week.
Is Broadchurch a repeat?
ITV has decided to air the entire first series of Broadchurch again for the first time since 2013.
Bosses over at the channel decided to air the classic TV series during the coronavirus lockdown.
The first series received widespread critical and commercial acclaim on its release seven years ago.
What is Broadchurch about?
Broadchurch is an ITV show based in a fictional quiet Dorset town of the same name.
The cliffside town is rocked when 11-year-old Danny Miller is found murdered at the base of cliffs.
David Tennant starts as DI Alec Hardy, who runs the investigation into the murder with Ellie Miller, played by Olivia Colman.
In series one, the focus was on the search for the boys murderer – and pulled in an average of 9.3million viewers by the end of its eight episode run in 2013.
Series two was released in 2015 and focused on the fallout of the discovery of who killed Danny and why.
At its peak, it pulled in 9.7million viewers, and was greenlit for a third and final series at the show’s end.
Who is in the cast of Broadchurch?
As well as the well-established cast, Broadchurch will be adding a whole host of well-known names to the town in series three.

David Tennant (Alec Hardy)
David is most known for his leading role in Doctor Who, before being replaced by Matt Smith.
However, he also has a strong presence on stage and screen – starring as Barty Crouch in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, appearing in Hamlet and most recently, breaking ground in the US as the evil Killgrave in the Netflix smash-hit Jessica Jones.
He was handed the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards for his contributions to television.
Olivia Colman (Ellie Miller)
Olivia Colman has become a much-acclaimed figure in acting after being well-received in both comedic and dramatic roles.
As well as appearing as the long-suffering Ellie on Broadchurch, Olivia played Angela Burr in the highly regarded drama The Night Manager, and
In comedy roles, Olivia appeared as the devoted yet dizzy mum Harriet in Green Wing, Mark’s long-term object of affection Sophie in Peep Show, and the sharp-tongued and innuendo loving cop Doris Thatcher in Hot Fuzz.
Her Night Manager role earned her a nod at the Emmys and the Golden Globes this year for Best Supporting actress in a limited series.
Arthur Darvill (Reverend Paul Coates)
Arthur first rose to stardom as the long-suffering and highly-devoted other half of Amy Pond, Rory, in Doctor Who.
After leaving the show in 2012, he has also been in stage shows on the West End including One Day and The History Boys.
His work with teh Royal Shakespeare company includes roles in Doctor Faustus, and he also played Long John Silver in the National Theatre’s production of Treasure Island.
He is now most known for his role as leading man Rip Hunter in the DC Universe’s Legends of Tomorrow.
Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer)
Jodie’s most known role was as Anne Hathaway’s best friend Tilly in heartbreaking romantic flick One Day in 2011.
She also appeared in St Trinian’s and alien inner city film, Attack the Block in the same year.
On TV, Jodie is known as Ffion in the Black Mirror episode The Entire History of You.
The BBC recently revealed Jodie will star in new thriller Trust Me.
Andrew Buchan (Mark Latimer)
Over the past ten years, Andrew has found the most success in TV roles, having major parts in mini-series’ including The Honourable Woman and The Great Fire.
He also played William Garrow in the Old Bailey based law drama Garrow’s Law, which ran for three series from 2009 – 2011.
Where is Broadchurch filmed?
The area of Broadchurch might be a fictional town – but the idyllic coastline is all real.
The Jurassic Coast in Dorset, is the actual backdrop to the stunning series.
For in town shots, the area of West Bay is used – and includes the home of the Echo Newspaper, the police station and Alec Hardy’s home.
