BROADCHURCH fans were given their first look at what to expect from the third and final series – and it looks like it will make for some harrowing viewing.
In a teaser clip released today, it starts with a close up of actress Julie Hesmondlagh’s character Trish with tears streaming down her face.
In the background, a voice is heard saying, “Here they are now.”
Then the voice of Olivia Colman, who stars as DS Ellie Miller is heard before she walks over to her and introduces herself to Trish.
She then leads her to a car which is parked by the harbour and where DI Alec Hardy, played by David Tennant, is waiting for them.
The attack on Trish was first hinted at during the teaser trailer for the drama which was released last month.
And Hesmondluagh, who is best known for playing Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street, said she gave it a lot of thought before accepting the role.
Speaking to the Express at a screening last month, she said: “It was a pretty amazing phone call to get and to hear what the story that was going to be explored was something that was really interesting to me and a little bit scary for me.

“Because obviously there’s been a lot of discussion in that time too about the televising of sexual violence and the way that has almost become normalised unfortunately, and putting your face to that is something I really had to think about.”
She also admitted that during the read-through, Colman and Tennant left her feeling star-struck and told the Mirror: “They are exactly as you imagine them to be. You see them on Graham Norton and there is a lot of banter and daftness.
“I was very star-struck, like a competition winner, it was pathetic.”
The new story picks up three years after the conclusion of the second series, when Ellie Miller’s husband Joe was exiled from his former community, despite being acquitted for the murder of Danny Latimer.
Many of the old cast have returned for the new series but there are also some new faces including Hesmondlaugh, Lenny Henry, Charlie Higson and Sarah Parish.
